Economic Times reported that Vedanta Aluminium Limited appears to have bucked the recession as it goes on hiring young science and engineering graduates.

As per report, the Company has recruited over 600 graduates from about 30 Science Colleges and 35 Engineering campuses most of which were located in Orissa. While 14 of the 35 Engineering colleges were in Orissa all the 30 Bachelor of Science colleges it visited were from Orissa. These included top colleges like the National Institutes of Technologies, Rourkela and KIT, Bhubaneswar among other universities.

These new recruits would be employed at Vedanta’s Aluminium Smelter and Caster at Jharsuguda and at the Refinery at Lanjigarh.

Mr Dilip Pattanayak head of HE said that “These recruits are the future leaders of Vedanta Aluminium Limited. They have an opportunity to grow with Vedanta and develop their skills and expertise.”

Mr Pattanayak asserted that this was not a one off event and that Vedanta would look to recruit even more graduates in the coming months as more of its operations go live. The applicants were chosen after a rigorous entrance procedure. Vedanta conducted a pre placement talk in most of the campuses it visited to inform students about its offers. Thereafter, the students had to appear in a qualifying exam, post which interviews were conducted.

He said that Vedanta which has always been the preferred recruiter among manufacturing companies has this year been the most preferred recruiter across industries and in a majority of the campuses. Also, unlike other companies, Vedanta has not gone back on its promises to students and given offer letters to all students who were selected on campus. The Company has been able to keep its commitment at a time when most companies having made huge offers on campus cancel the offers and send regret letters to the candidates.

A student who recently got the appointment letter from the Company said that “Vedanta has come as a savior for us. Not only has it offered jobs to us when the employment scenario looked the bleakest, Vedanta has offered salaries which are above the salaries offered by other companies.”
