According to Guangdong Provincial Environmental Protection Department, Zijin Mining Group ceased operations at its Yinyan Tin Mine located in Guangdong province due to the collapse of a tailing dam.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Zijin said the collapse caused the release of acidic copper and sulfate.
Guangdong environmental authorities started to examine the rivers near Yinyan Tin Mine every two hours since 9 PM on September 21st.
The content of several substances including copper, zinc, lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury and manganese in the river were examined.
