ABB has won a contract to supply Qatargas with 16 continuous emission monitoring solutions units.

The ABB said that the Qatargas 1 Plateau Maintenance Project includes the construction of new acid gas removal and sulphur recovery units adjacent to the existing units. Once completed, these new facilities will reduce the level of sulfur in the Qatargas 1 feed gas to three Liquefied Natural Gas production trains.

According to ABB, the PMP aims at maintaining the current LNG production capacity. TCJV was awarded the Engineering Procurement and Construction contract associated with QG1 PMP and ABB was selected by TCJV to supply CEMS units.

ABB’s technology will be installed on top of the gas turbines and sulphur recovery incinerator exhaust stacks at Qatargas’ facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City. This purchase order includes ABB’s gas analyzers and accompanying technology systems. The CEMS provided by ABB will be used to monitor Nitrogen Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide and Sulphur Dioxide emitted at the site.

ABB’s CEMS solution is based on Ultraviolet Resonance Absorption Spectroscopy. ABB’s UV RAS Technology can measure very low concentrations of Nitrogen Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide and Sulphur Dioxide in one analyzer.

Mr Kishore Sundararajan Business Unit manager at ABB said that “ABB has decades of experience in terms of developing emissions monitoring systems for the oil and gas industries. We’re proud to be playing a role in meeting Qatargas’ environmental requirements. We will continue to work closely with TCJV to ensure that Qatargas continuous emissions monitoring systems are working round the clock all day and every day.”
