Last November AIC concluded the start up of the turnkey electrical part of a complete 2 strands wire rod mill with a capacity of 500.000 tonne per year on the outskirts of Casablanca.

The plant supplied to Univers Acier consist of 28 DC drives stands, 2 fast finishing blocks, 4 shears and 6 pinch rolls and includes the following systems:

1. Furnace loading automation
2. Combustion management of reheating furnace by optimized heating strategy with internal surveillance cameras system
3. Discharging system
4. Automation and control of roughing area, intermediate rolling mill and 2 pre finishing rolling mills
5. Automation and control of 2 wire rod lines including shear, fast finishing block, pinch roll and layer forming head with cooling conveyor.
6. Water treatment plant and auxiliary services

The new wire rod mill started up about one month ahead of scheduled time table and a total commissioning period of only 2 months in this period the AIC staff completed I/O tests, AC&DC Drives calibrations, cold and hot tests and production assistance.
