The Algerian operations of ArcelorMittal have been unable to meet internal production targets in September. Further, 2010’s steel production as a whole seems likely to fall short of internal forecast.

Located in El Hadjar in September the plant produced 34,412 tonnes of crude steel, 50% below the production target. Stoppages and walkouts are the prime causes to affect this result. Meanwhile, the company sold 45,900 tonnes of material during the same month.

Overall, ArcelorMittal Annaba is on track to produce 700,000 tonnes of crude steel in 2010 unless it increases production substantially over the remainder of the year. This would be 41% below the company’s target for the year and a level well below the nominal installed capacity.

ArcelorMittal in Algeria produces semis, longs and flats it has an installed capacity of 2.6 million tonnes per year of crude steel.
