
TradeArabia reported that Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited of India has won a USD 400 million contract to supply, install and commission gas turbines in Oman.
Petroleum Development Oman will use the 126 MW turbines in its power plants. The contract will be valid for a period of 6 years with the possibility of extending it for another 3 years.
BHEL, the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy related and infrastructure sector, will manufacture the turbines in its factories in India. BHEL's turbines already account for more than 50% of PDO's installed generating capacity.
The company has already carried out four engineering, procurement and construction projects for PDO, which accounts for over 90% of the country's crude oil production and nearly all of its natural gas supply.
PDO is owned by the government of Oman which has a 60% interest, Royal Dutch Shell which has a 34% interest, Total which has a 4%interest and Partex which has a 2% interest.
