
Arabian business reported that Qatar has signed a contract with a consortium including two French firms to build a QAR 1.78 billion pumping station to serve the northern part of Doha.
The Public Works Authority recently inked the deal with a consortium comprising Qatari Diar, Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Entrepose Contracting for the construction of the station, which Ashghal officials described as a major component of the Doha North Sewage Treatment Plant.
The facility, meant for treating effluent will serve the northern part of Doha and its suburbs and will have a capacity of handling 243,000 cubic meters of treated water a day.
Mr Naser Ali al-Moulavi acting MD of Ashghal said that the plant was due to be completed in 33 months and would cater for 900,000 residents besides providing treated effluent for irrigation to areas.
Mr Al-Moulavi said that the paper the latest contract was part of Doha North Sewage Treatment Plant project costing more than QAR 8 billion.
The first phase of the project has been undertaken by Singapore based Keppel Corporation at a cost of QAR 3.6 billion. It consists of design, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant for 10 years.
