DP World announced that the introduction of the Remote Reefer Container Monitoring System or Refcon at its Jebel Ali Port.

Refcon enables port operators to respond quickly to emergencies and eliminate idle periods. Any temperature problems or other irregularities within a refrigerated container or reefer, triggers an alarm in the terminals control office, which then sends a mechanic to investigate.

DP World said that the technology will help it satisfy its customer’s requirements and assure a high standard of operation.

Mr Mohammed Al Muallem senior vice president and MD of DP World said that “The establishment of this system is yet another step towards meeting our customer’s needs.”

Mr Al Muallem said that “What was once a time-consuming multi handed job has now become a one man, one station operation.”

Data from the container is processed through the Refcon Global Monitoring System server at the manufacturer’s facility in Denmark.

The Refcon system, made by Johnson Controls also enables reefer operators to track their cargo boxes throughout their journey via remote access.
