Gulf News reported that Drake & Scull International has been awarded its first contract in Thailand worth AED 130 million for complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing works in The River residential building in Bangkok.
DSI established its Thailand offices earlier this month. The River is being developed by Raimon Land, whose majority shareholder is IFA Hotels and Resorts.
The projects will consist of 2 towers; north tower with 42 floors and a south tower with 71 floors. The towers will offer 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, duplexes and penthouses, a fitness centre, a pool and a sky garden.
Mr Khaldoun Tabari vice chairman and CEO of DSI said that "Our continued expansion, now going beyond the MENA region and into South East Asia, once again shows DSI is fulfilling the promises it first made when listing on the DFM. We are very enthusiastic about our newly opened Thailand office and DSI is actively looking to secure new deals in this region."
In March, the firm became the first specialist contracting company to list on the DFM. DSI's contract includes the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of complete MEP works including air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing and drainage, automatic fire fighting, earthing and lightning protection, cabling and small power and lighting systems.
Project management and engineering positions will be filled by employees from the UAE office with an operations manager being employed specifically for Thailand.
Mr Tabari said that "We are keen to expand to the Far East as there are currently no multi discipline contractors in that region. One contractor will deliver mechanical services another contractor will deliver electrical services and a third company will deliver plumbing services. DSI can deliver all 3."
