
Mr Shaikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani Crown Prince of Qatar has laid the foundation stone for the Phase I of the QAR 25.6 billion New Doha Port in Mesaieed.
Qatari officials said that the project is targeted for completion in 2016. The port will be completed in Phases III. The Phase II will start in 2020 while the third is scheduled in 2030.
Upon completion, the 26.5 square kilometer New Doha Port will have a cargo handling capacity of 6 million TEUs or around 14 times its current capacity. The port will be equipped to handle the world's largest ships and will be among the largest deep water ports in the world.
