Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Limited has confirmed the award of the contract for Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning works for the Asab 3 Project on a Lump Sum Turnkey Basis to Technip France, Abu Dhabi for a total Agreement Price of about USD 415 million.

The initial phase of the project will commence from the Contractor’s Home Office and will later on move to the Asab sites for construction activities.

The Project facilities are scheduled for completion by Q3 of 2012 and removal of the redundant facilities Q2 of 2013.

The Asab 3 Project will be developed to process an additional 150 MMSCFD of associated gas from the existing Asab, Shah and Sahil oil fields. The project will provide a new booster station to transport a total of 450 MMSCFD from the ADCO facilities. The gas will be processed at the existing GASCO Asab ‘0’ plant which will be expanded. The expansion of the Asab ‘0’ plant will include new compression and treatment facilities. 6 new compressors will be provided with electrical drives to optimize energy efficiency. To support these facilities a new substation will be constructed and power for the plant will be provided via new 33 kV overhead lines from the existing Asab 2 area, some 10 kilometers distant. A new diversion compressor and associated 16” pipeline will be provided under the project between Asab 0 and Asab I/II plants.

As per provisions of the contract the Contractor is expected to maximize the local content of the project in terms of materials, equipment and services. The Project will deploy a large workforce of labour, technicians and supervisors with a peak of about 3,000 personnel during construction activities.

The Asab 3 Project, in addition to increasing the Sales Gas available to consumers in the Emirate will facilitate increased oil production from new ADCO facilities which are presently under development. The gas processing flexibility of the Asab processing network will be enhanced by the provision of the diversion capability between the existing Asab ‘0’ and Asab I/II plants.

The Front End Engineering Design for the Asab 3 Project was completed earlier 2009 and particular emphasis was given to HSE aspects in order to eliminate any adverse impact on the environment and surrounding community in line with ADNOC HSE Codes of Practice.

This project will also provide excellent opportunities to UAE Nationals for training and learning new technologies through exposure and interaction with specialists both in the UAE and abroad. This will enable them to develop their competencies and expertise in the area of Technology and Project Management and also to take on responsibilities in Operation and Maintenance.
