GCC energy trade liaison officers recently met in Bahrain to exchange experiences, discuss roles, propose recommendations to promote energy trade and develop an action plan for the next phase.

At a workshop organized by the GCC Interconnection Authority, they also discussed activating and facilitating procedures of energy trade between the GCC countries and discussed ways to overcome obstacles that they may have to face.

An earlier workshop titled the way to divert the Gulf link from electricity integration into electricity markets that efficiently exchange and trade in energy was attended by experts from the European Union, officials from the electricity sector and experts from the GCC electricity regulatory authorities.

Mr Ahmed Al Ibrahim acting CEO of the authority announced that the authority had made all efforts in promoting and activating trade exchange between GCC states, which reflected in a rise in traded energy between them through the electrical interconnection network.
