Times of Oman reported that Gulf International Pipe Industry has been awarded the first project order to supply 5,000 tonnes X52 Sour grade carbon steel ERW pipes for Daleel Petroleum.
The pipe to be supplied by GIPI will be 18 meters in length and will be the very first such pipe length to be supplied locally and in the Gulf region.
Mr Masoud Al Barwani deputy CEO of GIPI explained that the extended length of 18 meters pipe significantly reduces the cost of pipeline construction with 30% less number of weld joints, cost of shrink sleeves, NDT and other inspection costs.
Mr Masoud said that important oil and gas players in Oman such as Daleel are beginning to appreciate the significant cost benefits that are offered by a local manufacturer which goes beyond the price per tonnage comparison with imported pipes.
He further stated that “Other than the direct cost saving to the EPC contractor and to the pipeline owner, there are numerous other benefits that are realized by using a local manufacturer such as port issues, just in time delivery, professional coating in house, sophisticated lab and testing services, etc. We are proud that Daleel has taken all these benefits into account and selected GIPI for this important supply.”
Mr Hamdan Al Shaqsy MD and CEO of GIPI said that “GIPI is delighted to have been awarded this important pipeline order. Daleel is one of the leading oil producing companies in the Sultanate. Daleel Petroleum is involved in exploration, appraisal and production of hydrocarbon reserves located in block 5, onshore Oman approximately 450 kilometers North West of Muscat.
