Gulf International Pipe Industry, Oman's sole manufacturer of high pressure ERW steel pipes, has successfully supplied internally and externally coated line pipes, for the Muscat International Airport’s Expansion Project.
The project spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, covers installation of additional aviation fuel pipelines for transporting Jet A-1 aviation fuel to airport depots.
The 6 kilometer pipeline ranges from 8"- 24" were all produced and coated internally and externally in GIP's Coating Mill. Epoxy phenolic coating was applied to protect the internal pipe surfaces from corrosion as well as to reduce friction and enhance flow efficiency. In addition, 3 Layer High Density Polyethylene External coating was applied directly to these pipes; such coating provides cost effective protection against mechanical damage, chemical and corrosion attack as well as harsh environments.
Mr Masoud al Barwani technical director of GIPI said "The fact that GIPI is the preferred bidder for the supply of such type of line pipes for this prestigious project confirms the Company's status as not only serving oil and gas sectors but also attending other sophisticated projects like this one with the Muscat International Airport Development Project.”
GIPI, inaugurated in March 2010, manufactures Line pipes and OCTG casings for the oil and gas, petrochemical, agricultural, construction and allied sectors. GIPI's integrated mill in Sohar boasts of a threading line, an anticorrosion external 3 LPE/PP/FBE and internal liquid epoxy pipe coating mill, slitting machine and a world class metallurgical laboratory facility.
