Gas pipeline explosion kills 6 near Mashhad

Mehr News Agency cited Mr Gholam Reza Masoumi head of Iran's emergency services as saying that that a gas pipeline explosion near Iran’s northeastern city of Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi province killed 6 people and injured 20 others.

Mr Alireza Gharibi director of the Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company said that the blast occurred in the Mazdavand region, 90 kilometers from Mashhad when an excavator struck a pipeline which transports gas from the Khangiran refinery in Sarakhs to Mashhad.

He said that all the injured were transferred to a hospital in Mashhad and received treatment. The fire covered an area with a radius of 300 meters. He added that it took three hours to put off the fire.
