Hamas seeks clarifications about steel underground wall

Xinhua reported that the deposed government of Hamas asked Egypt to make clarifications about the steel underground wall reportedly being extended at borders with Gaza.

Mr Fathi Hammad Hamas' minister of interior said that he asked the Egyptian government to brief the Islamic movement on development on the Egyptian side bordering Gaza following reports over an intensified security existence and plans to extend steel underground wall along the border line.

The statement said that "Minister Mr Hammad asked the Egyptian side some clarifications about the reports saying that Egypt is building up an underground steal fence under the borderline area between Gaza Strip and Egypt.

Meanwhile, Mr Hammad said that he briefed senior Egyptian security officials about security measures adopted by the movement at borders and made reassurances over security situation there. He reiterated to the Egyptian side that his government is concerned about the Egyptian security the security of Egypt is consequently a security for the Palestinians.

Mr Hammad told the Egyptians that his ministry sent security forces to border areas to prevent some residents from opening fire at the Egyptian and Palestinian border area. The Hamas' minister also asked the Egyptian side to take measures to ease the suffering of Gaza residents caused by over 3 year Israeli blockade.
