Hanwha wins Salalah chemical complex contract

South Korea’s Hanwha Engineering & Construction Corporation has been awarded the engineering procurement & construction contract for a USD 500 million chemical complex in Salalah, Oman.

The scope of the contract covers the construction of both a caustic soda plant with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day and an ethylene dichloride facility with a capacity of 1,231 tonnes per day.

The Saltic FZCO project was designed by SNC Lavalin Engineering India & STX Heavy Industries and tendering and evaluation was overseen by Worley Parsons at its Mumbai office.

Groundbreaking on the project is expected to complete before the end of this year while construction work is expected to start in January 2013 with completion due by February 2015.
