AK News reported that the Federal Transport Ministry complained that the USD 60 million that were allocated in the 2012 budget for the development and rehabilitation of the Iraqi Republic Railways Company are not enough.

Mr Jawad al Kharsani ministry spokesman said that "The Ministry of Transport tries to attract investment companies in order to finance its railway projects."

Iraq's railway urgently needs to be repaired since little money was spent for it under Saddam Hussein and lots of infrastructure was damaged during the war in 2003 and years of insurgency and sabotage.
