
The Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works handed over two indigenously built tugs to Karachi Port Trust.
The pusher tugs are modern twin propeller vessels for inland waters, harbor and coastal services, built in steel with optimal layout and high quality machinery and equipment, having overall length of 16.89 meters with 55 tonnes displacement, 10.7 tonnes of pull capacity and 9.7 knots of speed.
KPT Chairperson Ms Nasreen Haque inaugurated the launch of two pusher tugs built at the Shipyard for operational use of KPT.
She said “We are working closely with the Shipyard and also assigning them various jobs to build and also repair our various boats and floating cranes etc including one named Hathi.”
Addressing the ceremony, KSEW GM Commodore Sajid Wazir Khan said that the tugs have been built with world class standards and both the vessels will be go sea trials thoroughly before their final handing over to KPT.
He said that dredge tender was also under construction for KPT having length of 19.11 metres with displacement of 125 tonnes.
