UAE based offshore rig refurbishing and building company Lamprell delivered a USD 112 million (AED 411 million) vessel.
The ship, the second of its kind built by Lamprell, is designed to operate in harsh environments and is a self-propelled, dynamically positioned jack-up. As per report the vessel will be used to install wind energy turbines in the North Sea by Seajacks, the buyer.
It said that the vessel can also be used for offshore production maintenance and well-head maintenance.
Mr Jason Pollock project manager for the vessel said that "This has been a very successful project. It is on time and on budget.” He added that the vessel would take almost five weeks to arrive in the North Sea.
Mr Pollock further added that "This is a UAE product. It was designed, built and sold here. The UAE is at the top of the market.”
Mr Scott Doak CFO for Lamprell said that the company had secured 85 to 90 per cent of the Middle East market in rig refurbishing. He added that the construction of vessels was a relatively new business line for the company. Last year, Lamprell's turnover was $740 million.
