Larsen Toubro bags electrical orders from Gulf for major transmission and substation projects

The Power Transmission & Distribution IC, part of Larsen & Toubro’s Construction Division has bagged major EPC orders from GCC countries aggregating to INR 1366 crore. The order includes construction of 225 kilometers overhead transmission line, 66 kilometers of underground cabling including 8 substations and associated cabling works.

Larsen & Toubro Saudi Arabia LLC a fully owned subsidiary of L&T has bagged one of the largest orders valued at Rs.597 crore for construction of the 225 kilometers of 380 kV transmission line project from Saudi Electricity Company connected with Haramain High Speed Railway.

This project, once commissioned will be feeding power to Haramain High Speed Railway system which will be linking the holy cities of Medina and Mecca via Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The scope involves complete engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of towers, conductors, insulators, OPGW and fittings. The project will be completed in 24 months.

The company also bagged two EPC orders aggregating INR 497 crore from UAE. The first from Abu Dhabi Ports Company valued at INR 422 crore is for the construction of 5 medium voltage substations and associated 33kV cabling works for ADPC’s Khalifa Port & Industrial Zone Project. This is to be completed in 18 months.

ADPC is responsible for development of Khalifa Port Project and this will replace the existing Mina Zayed port by 2012. International Bechtel Company Limited is the Project Management Consultants for this project. L&T is actively involved in the execution of three substations including 230 kilometers of 33 kV cabling for the same customer at Khalifa Port.

The other order, valued at INR 75 crore secured from Dubai Electricity & Water Authority is for the construction of 132 kV cabling and associated works, to be completed in 11 months. In yet another development, L&T has secured a breakthrough order valued at INR 185 crore from Qatar General Electricity.
