Morocco based steel company Maghreb Steel is nearing the start up of an auto shredding plant expected to process around 300,000 tonnes of scrap per year.
As per report, Maghreb Steel is close to starting up the auto shredder at its facility in Casablanca, Morocco. The shredder, manufactured by Metso is expected to begin operating in May of 2011.
Maghreb Steel currently produces hot rolled coil, cold reduced coil, hot dip galvanized and color coated. By the end of June the company will be able to produce 1 million tonnes per year of crude steel from scrap and 500,000 tonnes per year of steel plate.
Maghreb also will use scrap and hot briquetted iron to feed its new EAF. The scrap will mainly be purchased on the international market as the quality of domestic material is still considered too low for flat product production.
