The Pakistan State Oil and the Associated Group have signed MoU for setting up auto LPG stations in order to provide cheaper alternative fuel to the motorists.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr Syed Naveed Qamar Federal Minister for Petroleum, Natural Resources and Privatization.

On the occasion, Mr Irfan Qureshi MD of PSO said that it is our pleasure to join hands with the Associated Group which is the largest producer, transporter and marketer of LPG in Pakistan to set up LPG auto gas stations. This MoU will pave the way for joint development of a safe and sustainable auto gas market in Pakistan.

According to an economic survey carried out for 1,000cc cars, Mogas available at a price of PKR 60.46 per liter gives a mileage of 10 kilometers per liter whereas high speed diesel priced at PKR 61.41 gives a mileage of 12 kilometers per liter. On the other hand, LPG priced at PKR 35.3 per kilogram gives the maximum mileage of 16 kilometers beating the CNG which gives 10 kilometer per kilogram.

The LPG comprises propane or butane or a mixture of the 2 gases. It is a product of oil refining and is also present in natural gas fields and crude oil fields. Its conversion is cheaper than CNG. It has higher octane number ie 103, hence it is a powerful fuel with higher calorific value than that of other fuels. LPG refilling time is similar to petrol. It is environment friendly and is more suited for gasoline engines resulting in no engine power reduction.
