The steel market in Middle East was affected badly last week by the spreading fire of political unrest pushing down prices of longs visibly across all countries and containing the price hike in flats despite higher global levels.
With the wave of political unrest extending to several countries, the situation is taking a grim turn and no immediate solution is in sight. The unrest that started with Tunisia and Egypt has swept Yemen, Libya, Algeria, Bahrain and Iran etc.
This has led to erosion of some of the important destinations for Turkish and CIS steel mills producing billets and rebars forcing them to look for buyers in alternate countries thus depressing prices to some extant.
The Middle East Long Product Price Index MLPPI is gone down by 143 points last week whereas the Middle East Flat Products Index MFPPI is went up by 21 points. The overall price index Middle East MEASPI declined by 94 points.
