OGDCL releases Pakistan basin study report

The News reported that Mr Asif Saeed Sindhu MD & CEO of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited handed over the first copy of Pakistan Basin Study report to Mr Asim Murtaza Khan MD of Pakistan Petroleum Limited at a ceremony held at the OGDCL head office.

Mr Sher Muhammad Khan DG of Concessions said that this report will play a key role in enhancing the exploration activities in the country.

Mr Saeed Sindhu thanked Mr Khan and other E&P companies who realized the importance of Pakistan Basins Study Report.

Mr Khalid Rehman former MD of PPL, Mr Moeen Raza Khan GM exploration of PPL, Mr Qazi Muhammad Saleem Siddiqui director of DGPC, GM exploration OGDCL and professionals of Basin Study project were also present on the occasion.

The report was prepared by the OGDCL on the directives of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources. Renowned UK based consultant and geosciences Services Company Fugro Robertson Limited conducted the study. The study was completed in four years time by a large number of FRL geoscientists and OGDCL counterparts.

The report covers all onshore and offshore sedimentary basins of Pakistan which contains huge volume of data and information including 126,000 line kilometres seismic data, 10,000 G&G reports and 1,000 well data.

The OGDCL has invited all multinational and Pakistani E&P companies operating in Pakistan in this promotion campaign. Several oil and gas companies have expressed their willingness to purchase the report. The interested E&P companies abroad will also be approached to take advantage of this report to participate in the hydrocarbon exploration opportunities in Pakistan.

This report will provide countrywide assessments of petroleum plays ranging in age from infra Cambrian to Pleistocene, embodied in a series of play fairway maps accompanied by mega regional, reappraisal and re-mapping of the relevant reservoir facies and ranking of the areas on the basis of their petroleum prospectivity, potential reserves, economic viability and recommendations for future exploration strategies.
