Times of Oman reported that MUSCAT: Petroleum Development Oman is likely to award an on plot package of Amal steam injection project sometime in October. This is part of several major enhanced oil recovery projects, which are under different stages of planning and implementation.

As many as ten international and local companies have been short-listed for the engineering, procurement and construction contract of the steam injection project, which is expected to cost around USD 100 million. Some of them have already submitted their bids for developing the project.

Pre qualified companies;
The plan is to inject steam directly into the oil reservoir to lower the viscosity of the oil it contains and thereby extract oil out of the ground. Then oil is separated from water.

The pre qualified companies are Larsen and Toubro Electro Mechanical, Punj Lloyds, Gulf Petrochemical Services and TradingGulf Petrochemical Services and Trading Gulf Petrochemical Services and Trading GPS, Consolidated Contractors Company, Arabian Industries, Dodsal, Al Hassan Engineering and Galfar Engineering & Contracting Al Hassan Engineering.
