
The News reported that the Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed the petition filed by the government to revive the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Policy 2011 and the imposition of the Petroleum Levy.
The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry dismissed the petitions filed by the Federation and the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources to vacate a stay of Lahore High Court which has suspended certain clauses of the new LPG Policy 2011. The bench, comprising the Chief Justice, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez, in its order said that the Federation might approach the LHC for raising similar contentions as a proper forum and after availing the remedy it could move the apex Court.
It observed that if a plea was moved by the Federation, the LHC might fix it for hearing within two-week time. The counsel for marketing companies represented by Senior Advocates Supreme Court Shahid Hamid and Uzair Bhandari said that they would have no objection, if the Federal Government applied for early hearing of the LHC. The spokesman for association, in a statement said the association would welcome early hearings by the Lahore Court.
