Arabian Business reported that Qatar’s Public Works Authority has cancelled contracts of at least 2 developers working on the QAR 8 billion Doha Expressway.
Sources said that one of the firms was the Germany based Bilfinger Berger the main contractor of the Doha Expressway/ February 22 Street but this was not confirmed by the company.
Previous reports in the Arabic press said that work on this part of the ambitious road project had been suspended after a disagreement over payment between Ashghal and Bilfinger Berger.
The Doha Expressway project is a 6 kilometers, 3 lane dual carriageway including underpasses, crossovers and 4 separate interchanges. The total scheme includes 12 contracts of work and is part of wider road development plans that aim to connect north and south Doha and the city’s east and west.
The project was originally due to be completed in the Q2 of 2008. Following delays it is now due to be finished in March 2010.
