Arabian Business reported that Qatar is eyeing plans to build a new receiving terminal for liquefied natural gas in Europe with Bulgaria a possible location.
Mr Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al Thani PM & foreign minister of Qatar revealed the plans but added that it was unlikely that the project would happen for up to 2 years.
He said at a joint press conference with visiting Mr Boyko Borisov PM of Bulgarian that this is under study and I don’t think anything would happen before 1 or 2 years in this respect. If we are thinking about another terminal, that needs a lot of technical studies.
Mr Jassim bin Jabor said that “A new terminal involves feasibility studies, huge investment and users for the gas. At this moment, we are studying all the options and Bulgaria is on our list.”
Meanwhile, Qatar plans to raise its annual LNG production capacity 43% to 77 million tonnes this year with the startup of 3 new plants.
