
Hurriyet Daily reported that the consumption of electricity which is considered as one of the most important indicators of economic development increased 6.2% in October in Turkey compared to same period of 2008.
According to figures of Turkish Electricity Transmission Company, electricity consumption has been continuously dropping due to the economic crisis and it increased for the first time in October 2009.
Electricity consumption, which was 14.9 billion kilowatt per hour in October 2008 rose to 15.8 billion kilowatt per hour in October 2009. The consumption in September 2009 was 15.3 billion kilowatt per hour. On the other hand, the electricity consumption in the first 10 months of 2009 dropped 3.9% when compared to the same period of 2008. The consumption in January to October 2008 was 166.8 billion kilowatt per hour. It was 160.2 billion kilowatt per hour in the same period of 2009.
