Red Sea Gateway Terminal the new grass route container terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port has confirmed its deployment of its terminal operating system indicating that all software has successfully passed operational testing, as it gets ready to receive its first commercial vessel in December 2009.

Choosing the leading maritime IT provider Zebra Enterprise Solutions, a division of Zebra Technologies as its partner, RSGT becomes the first Middle East terminal operator to use the next generation of the Navis™ SPARCS N4 TOS.

Currently in place at Durban, Port Elizabeth Container Terminal and East London Multipurpose Terminal, the Web Based SPARCS N4 operating system governs the movement of all container logistics and operations from gate to yard to vessel and offers Red Sea Gateway Terminal improved customer support and increased stacking yard capacity. SPARCS N4 will also provide greater control over resources.

Mr Aamer Ali Reza CEO of Red Sea Gateway Terminal said that “SPARCS N4 is a fully integrated solution from gate to yard to vessel, thereby eliminating the manual processes. RSGT will enjoy benefits such as superior Yard Vessel, planning and control as well as advanced equipment control.”

Zebra Enterprise Solutions, formally known as Navis has already proven to be the TOS company of choice with implementations in more than 200 terminals worldwide, including DP World Jebel Ali Terminal 2 and Empresa Nacional de Puertos del Peru SA.

RSGT seeks to set itself as leader in the region in terms of providing a world class service not only to shipping lines but also to importers and exporters. Situated at Jeddah Islamic Port, through which 73% of the Saudi Arabia’s gateway traffic flows, the terminal will accentuate the port’s status as a regional hub by adding 45% to its annual capacity, equivalent to 1.5 million TEU’s.

Mr John Anderson project manager of ZES said that “SPARCS N4’s unique combination of functional capabilities and built in best practices will put Red Sea Gateway terminal on track to managing its growth and providing first rate service to its customers. We enjoyed working with RSGT and look forward to helping the terminal move to its next level of success with SPARCS N4.”
