Saudi Arabian Fertilizers Company has awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract of the fifth expansion project on LSTK basis to Italy's Saipem to design and build USD 533 million plant in Jubail.

Safco said that production capacity at the new plant which will be funded internally is expected to reach 1.1 million tonnes of urea per year. Construction will take 26 months. Commercial production is expected to start within the third quarter of 2014.
