Menafn reported that Royal Dutch Shell and Saudi Aramco JV tested the Kidan gasfield and said that there are positive signs of finding adequate amounts of light oil in the field.

Mr Walter Voggenreiter acting CEO of SRAK said that the JV South Rub Al Khali Company conducted a test well at Kidan flowed at 90 million cubic feet per day and been able to flow hydrocarbons.

He said that the level of condensate in the field was the key to the project's economics, concluding that as it is a gas condensate field so there is a liquid content. The liquid content sustains a lot of the value of the hydrocarbons. He added that the company is looking of course at the liquid content.

Saudi Arabia opened the vast desert of its southeast, known as the Empty Quarter, to foreign oil firms working in consortia with Aramco in 2003 to 2004. So far, they have failed to find the gas needed to meet future Saudi demand.
