Mr Zubair Motiwala chairman of Sindh Board of Investment lashed out at Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited for unjustly distributing gas connections that had caused gas shortage in the country.
Mr Motiwala said that “SNGPL had issued gas connections of 700 million cubic feet per day since 2008 while Sui Southern Gas Company had only issued connections of 100 million cubic feet per day in the same period. There are 2,700 CNG filling stations in Punjab and 709 in Sindh. SNGPL issued CNG connections in Punjab despite ban on new connections. There should be an audit why were these connections issued and upon whose instructions.”
He dispelled the impression that the gas production has declined and said that it has increased to 4,000 million cubic feet per day from 3,800 million cubic feet per day in 2008. He also criticized the violation of the Constitution that suggests that the area of production had the first right on usage.
