Topaz completes first milestone in Fujairah terminal project

Pipe Line Dubai reported that UAE based offshore services and oil & gas fabrication firm, Topaz Energy has successfully completed the first milestone activity of a project for Vopak Horizon, Fujairah.

As per report, the project was completed by Topaz’s subsidiary Nico International, part of the newly established Topaz Engineering division. The project was awarded to Nico by Interbeton, Abu Dhabi in November 2008 for the design, fabrication and installation of offshore trestles and pipes. The project is due for completion in December 2009.

During this project Topaz undertook the construction of berth 5 & 6 of the 1.5 million cubic meter oil terminal for Vopak in Fujairah. The project also included fabrication and erection of offshore structures weighing 1,055 metric tonnes; design, fabrication and erection of offshore piping of 8 kilometers length and erection of 6 marine loading arms. Some of the other products being erected are gangway towers, fire fighting equipments, stripping pumps, nitrogen and slop tanks, pig launchers, operator cabins & MCC containers.

The first milestone of the project was the completion of the erection of Trestle TB 4 weighing 56 metric tonnes, which was performed with an A-frame barge of the main contractor Interbeton. The first milestone was safely completed without a lost time injury.

Meanwhile, Topaz said that a pair of contracts worth a combined USD 325 million. Topaz subsidiary BUE Kazakhstan won a USD 100 million contract with Italy’s Agip KCO in Kazakhstan.

Topaz will custom-build, own and operate 6 specialized barges over a 10 year period to support Agip’s development program in the Kashagan field in the northern Caspian Sea.

The 6 ice-class barges will be deployed next year and are comprised of 3 cutting, one liquid-mud and two flat-top barges. Topaz also won USD 225 million with UK supermajor BP for work in the Caspian Sea to operate three vessels in support of BP’s program in Azerbaijan over the next ten years.
