
According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association, in 2011, Turkey's total apparent steel consumption rose by 14.1% YoY reaching 26.93 million tonnes.
Of the total consumption figure, 51% consisted of long steel products used mainly by the construction sector while 49% was accounted for by flat steel products used generally by the automotive, domestic appliance and machinery sectors.
Turkey's long steel products consumption in 2011 increased by 17.7% compared to 2010 to 13.73 million tonnes while the country's flat steel consumption grew by 10.6% YoY to 13.2 million tonnes. The association predicts an 8% increase for Turkey's total steel consumption in 2012.
