
Hurriyet Daily reported that Turkish construction company Polimeks has undersigned a deal with the Turkmenistan government to build a significant part of the biggest Olympics standard facility in Central Asia.
The Turkish company which started doing business in the country in 1995 with the construction of USD 30,000 paving project will undertake construction of USD 2 billion worth of USD 5 billion project.
The Ashgabat Olympic Complex which is scheduled to be built on an area of 150,000 square meters will host the 2017 Asia Olympics. Mr Erol Tabanca chairman of the company said that the project is a stepping stone both for Turkmenistan and Polimeks. This will be the biggest sports complex in Asia. Mr Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow president of Turkmenistan considers this project very important.
The Phase I of the project being handled by the Turkish firm is to be completed by 2014 while the completion date for the entire project is 2016. The project includes construction of 10,000 capacity skating facility along with several swimming pools, tennis courts, cycling racetracks, schools and accommodation facilities. The capacity of the football stadium will also be increased to 60,000, up from 33,000.
