
According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association, in June this year Turkey's crude steel production rose by 4% YoY exceeding 2.9 million tonnes. However, the country's crude steel production in June decreased 4.7% compared to May this year.
In June, of the total crude steel production in Turkey, steel production using electric arc furnaces rose 8.6% while production via blast furnaces fell by 9.4% to 658,000 tonnes both compared to June 2011.
In the month in question, Turkey's steel billet output moved up by 16.2% to 2.3 million tonnes while its slab output fell by 24.6% on the back of the contraction in global markets to 638,000 tonnes both on YoY basis.
In the H1 of the current year, Turkey's crude steel production exceeded 17.9 million tonnes up 9.3% YoY. In this period, steel production using EAFs amounted to 13.5 million tonnes with an increase of 11.9% while production via blast furnaces rose by 1.7% to 4.4 million tonnes both compared to the H1 of 2011.
The association noted that in the first 6 months of 2012 Turkey's steel billet output moved up by 16.5% to 13.5 million tonnes while its slab output fell by 8% to 4.5 million tonnes both on YoY basis.
