According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute, in May this year Turkey's flat steel imports including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, rose by 35.4% compared to the previous month and were up 35.3% compared to May 2011, totaling 505,410 tonnes. The value of these imports amounted to USD 377.7 million increasing by 36.7% as compared to April this year and up 14.6% YoY.
Meanwhile, in the first 5 months of the current year Turkey's flat steel imports amounted to 1.98 million tonnes decreasing 8.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first 5 months of the current year, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Ukraine amounted to 471,439 tonnes increasing by 9.7% YoY. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports in January to May this year was Romania with 308,879 tonnes up 19.2% compared to the first 5 months of 2011.
