
According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute, in December 2011 Turkey's steel scrap imports rose by 10.5% over November and were down 4.1% compared to the same month of 2010 amounting to 2.1 million tonnes.
According to the data released by TUIK, in December last year the average import price of Turkey's steel scrap stood at USD 431 per tonne decreasing by USD 25 per tonne compared to the previous month but up USD 43 per tonne compared to December 2010.
Meanwhile, in the whole year of 2011 Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 21.46 million tonnes increasing by 11.8% compared to 2010.
In 2011, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 5.8 million tonnes up 36% while Russia followed the US with its scrap exports to Turkey amounting to 2.33 million tonnes up 51% both compared to 2010.
In 2011, Romania exported 2.13 million tonnes of steel scrap to Turkey decreasing 4.9% while the UK's scrap exports to Turkey amounted to 1.96 million tonnes up 21.3% both compared to 2010.
