
According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Turkish Under secretariat of Customs in September 2009 Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled USD 567.11 million decreasing by 71.6% YoY but up 9.41% over August while exports of articles of iron or steel declined by 41.3% compared to September 2008 and were down 12.84% MoM amounting to a value of USD 344.15 million.
In the January to September of 2009, Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled USD 5.66 billion down 56.3% from USD 12.95 billion in the same period of 2008 while exports of articles of iron or steel amounted to USD 3.27 billion down 26.8%YoY from USD 4.47 billion.
Meanwhile in September Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled USD 1.22 billion decreasing by 39% YoY but up 30.28% over August while imports of articles of iron or steel declined by 30.8% compared to September 2008 and were up 8.67% MoM reaching USD 125.98 million.
In the January to September period of the current year, Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled USD 8.07 billion down 59.7% YoY from USD 20 billion while imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to USD 1.08 billion down 38.8% YoY from USD 1.76 billion.
