
Arab Steel reported that UAE came first in the world regarding the imports of rebar in 2008 amounting to USD 6.77 billion.
UAE's share is 27.3% of imports amounting to USD 24.8 billion in 2008, while Germany is in the second place with imports of rebar reaching USD 1.7 billion in 2008.
This was announced by a study carried out by the Trade Analysis & Information Department in the UAE's Ministry of Trade.
The study concluded that the GDP of building & construction in the country reached AED 69.2 billion in 2008 with a growth rate of 26% compared to 2007, i.e. a growth rate exceeding that of the non oil GDP by 150%.
The study pointed out that 99% of UAE imports of rebar is concentrated in 2 states only: Turkey with 67% and China with 12%.
