CFD reported that Nigeria, Algeria and Niger have signed an agreement to build one of the world's largest pipelines across the Sahara desert.

As per report, the pipeline will be 4,200 kilometers long and is expected cost at least USD 12 billion.

The trans-Sahara pipeline would be one of the great feats of engineering in the world and would dwarf several existing pipelines, sending up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe each year.

Russian energy Gazprom and Nigeria's staterun oil firm, NNPC agreed to build the first stage of the pipeline during the visit of the Mr Dmitry Medvedev president of Russian to Nigeria last week. It is hoped the first gas from Nigeria would be pumped into Europe by 2015. One concern is security, as the pipeline could be a target for rebels or Al Qaeda in North Africa.
