Beating competition from Japanese, Russian and Italian steel rail producers, Chinese steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation has won a contract to export 25,000 tonnes of steel rails to Pakistan.
In May, Pakistan invited public bids for the supply of 25,000 tonnes of UIC 54 steel rails for the country's railway network. Bidding opened in August at Islamabad with WISCO winning the supply contract against competition from Japanese, Russian and Italian firms.
In mid September, a WISCO delegation including production, sales and development personnel went to Pakistan to confirm the specific terms of the supply agreement and finally signed the contract.
