Reuters reported that workers at Libya's Port of Tripoli went on strike to demand better working conditions.

As per report, about 300 of 1,800 port workers voiced their demands saying that the port has been neglected for several decades and needs government investment to fix major damage caused by war.

Mr Adel al Tomi, an administrative clerk at the port, told Reuters that "We are not asking for extra money. We want the company to take care of the port. We want our rights as workers, we want a place to hide from the cold and the heat."

According to Reuters, the port has suffered neglect and poor management by Mr Muammar Gaddafi's government and further experienced more damage during the civil war that ended his rule.

The port is currently being managed by a state-run company which commenced normal operations in September a few weeks after Mr Gadafi's downfall. However, many say that conditions at the port are still poor.

Port workers said they would continue to strike until they receive a timeline for when the port would be rebuilt.

The Port of Tripoli is Libya's largest non oil harbor.
