
Menafn reported that Zamil Offshore Services has achieved another milestone by inaugurating the diving support vessel ‘Algosaibi 51, built especially for Khalifa Abdulrahman Al Gosaibi Diving Company. This represents the first contract with the Saudi private sector.
The ship is 49 meters in length and 12 meters in width. It is powered by a twin engine each delivering 1,200 KW. It will be equipped with advanced navigation and control system. It is expected to be delivered two months prior to the contract deadline after the completion of its outfitting.
Two weeks ago, the company has delivered ‘Zamil 54’, the third Rolls Royce UT-733 AHTS Anchor Handling Tug / Supply Vessel, to Saudi Aramco. Delivery of its sister Zamil 55 the fourth in the same series is underway. At the same time the company is about to deliver the buoy handling vessel Jubail 10 built to serve the commercial and industrial ports of Jubail.
Zamil Offshore was recently awarded a contract by the Saudi Ports Authority to build and deliver a multipurpose harbor/ fire fighting tug to Diba Seaport. This tug will be fitted with twin engines delivering a total of 2,400 KW and 2 firefighting high pressure nozzles.
Furthermore, the company has signed last week a contract with the Saudi Sea Ports Authority to build a modern shipbuilding and ship repair facility on large reclaimed area inside King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. Zamil’s new shipyard will be equipped with a modern ship lift capable of handling vessels up to 5,000 tonnes in weight. The new yard layout includes the construction of 9 berths to enable the yard from building and repairing nine vessels simultaneously. It will also, include building of extensively equipped outfitting and fabrication workshops. The design and construction of the new shipyard is planned to be completed in three years.
Engineer Sufyan Al Zamil president of Zamil said that “The new shipyard will be designed to accommodate building and repair of all types of vessels within its ship-lift capacity; merchant vessels, offshore support vessels, harbor service crafts, yachts, naval vessels and offshore rigs and platforms. It will double the available capacity and will enhance our operational efficiency in shipbuilding and ship repair.”
He added that “Zamil Offshore is the largest of its kind in the Middle East. We have been very active for over 30 years in diversified marine businesses. The marine operation division owns and operates more than 50 modern offshore vessels serving Saudi Aramco. While its shipyard is the premier shipbuilder in Saudi Arabia and the only specialized yard in the Middle East in building and repair of all kinds of offshore vessels up to 1600 tonnes. This new shipyard will provide training and employment opportunities for Saudi workforce.
