Reuters reported that state run Taiwan Power Co has received 35 offers of sub bituminous coal cargoes in its recent tenders for 17 panamax-sized shipments.
A trading source who offered coal into the tender said that two tenders, issued on July 4, are seeking 1.19 million tonnes of thermal coal for delivery between late September 2008 and February 2009.
The source said four companies offered a total of 10 cargoes in the first tender seeking 630,000 tonnes or 9 Panamax shipments, of sub bituminous coal for delivery between late September and December.
The second tender, which called for 560,000 tonnes or 8 Panamax shipments of coal for delivery between October this year to February 2009, drew 10 companies that offered a total of 25 cargoes.
The trader said that the tenders were seeking coal with minimum calorific value of 5,000 kcal/kg gross as received basis. Results of the tender would be announced later in the week.
