Lakshmi Energy targets over 100 mw biomass capacity
Project Monitor reported that Chandigarh headquartered Lakshmi Energy & Foods Ltd has targeted to achieve 105 MW biomass-based power capacity over the next three-four years.
Officials said that the Lakshmi Energy recently commissioned its first biomass power project 15 MW unit at Khamanon off the Chandigarh-Ludhiana highway in Punjab.
It said that the company was primarily a processing company and generated husk as a byproduct of the paddy-shelling process. The husk will be used to fuel the power plant. Besides feeding the state grid, the power unit will also earn carbon credits under Kyoto Protocol, the officials said. Over the next few months, another 15-mw biomass power will be taken up, they said. Paddy husk is known to have higher calorific value than other agro waste, making it an efficient fuel.
