Denmark and Germany to build bridge across Baltic Sea
AP reported that Denmark and Germany signed a formal agreement to build a 20 kilometer bridge across the Baltic Sea between the two countries, despite opposition from German environmental groups.
The bridge will have a four lane highway and a twin railway track. The road and rail link across the Fehmarn strait is to be completed in 2018. Construction is to begin in 2012.
The project will cost USD 6.2 billion and would be funded by private investors and EU funding.
