RVNL to complete major projects in 2 years

Project Monitor reported that Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd has planned to complete within the next 2 years, some major rail projects in the east, mainly connecting various parts of Orissa and West Bengal.

Of the stretches under execution, the 31.5 kilometer Rajathgarh to Barang track project is expected to be completed by June 2009. The project cost, estimated at INR 239.16 crore was sanctioned in 1999. The total land required for this project is 15.87 acres, out of which 11.15 acres is private land, 3.02 acres government land and the remaining 1.7 acres forest land. East Coast Railway has acquired 11.15 acres of private land. Earthwork of 9.30 million cubic meters has been completed and one out of 13 major bridges and 24 out of 39 minor bridges has been commissioned.

The third line between Khurda and Barang involving a stretch of 34.94 kilometer is also expected to complete by June 2009. The project is being executed at a cost of INR 206.66 crore. In this stretch RVNL has completed 9.97 cum out of 13.43 cum of earthwork and completed one major bridge and commissioned 30 out of 66 minor bridges.

As per report, the 12.3 kilometer Cuttack to Barang track project is expected to complete by December 2009. RVNL has completed 8.39 lakh cum out of 10.51 lakh cum of earthwork and has commissioned one of 6 major bridges. This project is estimated to cost INR 134.55 crore. The 25.6 kilometer Jharsuguda to Rengali track doubling project being executed at a cost of INR 91.41 crore will be commissioned by November 2010.

Meanwhile, RVNL has also finalized three composite tenders for earthwork, major bridges and minor bridges for the third line between Vizianagaram and Kottavalasa, a stretch of 34.70 kilometer and entailing an investment of INR 194.89 crore. It has also finalized fresh tenders for the INR 94.73 crore fourth line between Kottavalasa and Simhachalam North, a stretch of 17 kilometer. The two lines are scheduled to complete by March 2011 and December 2010, respectively.
